Best Options on Day 2 of Draft for Dolphins

Darnell Washington, TE – Georgia

The best option for the Dolphins, if he is still there at the 51^st pick is Georgia Tight End Darnell Washington. At 6’7 and at 268 Ibs, Washington is everything you want in a tight end if you’re Miami. As a blocker, you can’t ask for anyone better – there is little concern who your right tackle is if you have Darnell Washington playing next to him.

As a receiving threat, don’t sleep on him. Though he wasn’t relied upon in Georgia’s offense next to Brock Bowers, he has the speed and playmaking ability to make plays as a weapon when his number is called.

Dawand Jones, OT – Ohio State

Standing at 6’8 and 374 Ibs, is there anyone better to protect Tua’s blindside than Jones here?

The mammoth of a human being does not only offer the size to make it hard for defenders to get passed him but also plays with surprisingly good movement. Playing right tackle at Ohio State, should be able to start right away and make an impact day one.

Zach Charbonnet, HB – UCLA

A lot of noise is being made about the Dolphins trading for Dalvin Cook or Lions running back D’Andre Swift but what if Miami stayed put? What if they kept their assets and drafted a healthier, stronger option in Charbonnet?

A patient and instinctive power runner, who can break free of tackles and fights for the extra yards. He is also a reliable pass blocker and can make plays as a receiver. He would be a very nice compliment to speed back Raheem Mostert in Miami’s back field.

Tucker Kraft, TE – South Dakota State

If the Dolphins miss out on Darnell Washington, I would love Tucker Kraft to be the next option at Tight End. Miami has shown a lot of interest in Kraft, during the pre-draft process, even flying out to hold a private workout with him.

Another very good blocking tight end, who is a reliable pass catcher. As a receiver, he is not afraid of contact to make the tough catch. With his thick frame, he gives defenses headaches with his YAC ability.

Matthew Bergeron, OT – Syracuse

Yes, Chris Grier said the Dolphins are excited to see Austin Jackson play at right tackle next season so it should not counted against you if you think Miami passes on a tackle at 51 but if Bergeron is there, it should be considered.

Why? His versatility. He can play right tackle or guard and if Jackson keeps his job and does well, but Eichenberg struggles at left guard… Plug in Bergeron there. One of the better run blocking lineman in the draft, who can boost Miami’s o-line on day one.
