Miami Dolphins News 09/25/2023
The Miami Dolphins are fresh off a 70 to 20 drubbing of the Denver Broncos. It was the first home game of the season for Miami, they did not disappoint the hometown fans! HC Mike McDaniel spoke to the media today so there is some Dolphins news to discuss. The complete press conference can be seen below.
Injury Updates and Dolphins News
McDaniel advised that WR Jaylen Waddle is still concussion protocol. But, the coach said that they like the progress they see from Waddle in recovery from the concussion sustained in the Sunday night game against the Patriots in Week 2.
LB Jaelan Phillips and C Connor Williams injury statuses were both described as day to day by McDaniel. Phillips suffered an oblique injury in the Broncos games while Williams left the game with a groin injury.
CB Eli Apple is not in concussion protocol. Apple left the game but they determined he had not incurred a concussion. WR River Cracraft’s injury sustained against the Broncos seems like it may have him miss some games. McDaniel said it is not day to day. McDaniel said he believes Cracraft can return in the near future, but does not know now near. The coach added that Cracraft as been playing well and expects the WR to return to that form when he can play.
TE Durham Smythe also left the game with an injury, but the coach said “Durham is Durable.” With Smythe leaving the game it gave rookie TE Julian Hill more playing time than expected.
Now for Some Fun Stuff!
The 70 points the Dolphins put on the board yesterday easily surpassed the previous franchise record of 55 points when the beat the then St. Louis Cardinals on November 24, 1977 (Thanksgiving Day).
The Dolphins set the NFL and franchise record in yards from scrimmage with 726 yards. The 2023 Miami Dolphins and the 1951 Los Angeles Rams are the only two teams put up at least 700 yards of offense in one game. The Rams had 722 yards on September 28, 1951. (Ref: Stat Muse)
The Dolphins finished with over 300 passing yards and over 300 rushing another rare feat. According to NFL Research, Miami is only the second team since 1940 to obtain that feat.
