Skylar Thompson to Set Start
Mike McDaniel, Miami Dolphins head coach, advised in his Wednesday press conference that Skylar Thompson is set to start this week. Thompson was picked in the 7th round of this year’s NFL Draft. He got thrown into action this past week against the New York Jets. Teddy Bridgewater was injured on Miami’s first offensive snap, so the rookie quarterback basically played the whole game.
Thompson may not have lit up the scoreboard, but overall he held up fine under the circumstances. So, this week he will get to take more snaps in practice as Miami prepares to take on the Minnesota Vikings at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Skylar Thompson became a fan favorite during the preseason. Because he put up good performances with extended action while Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater had limited action.
Skylar Thompson and Other Dolphins Notes
Sklar Thompson played his college ball at Kanas State. The Dolphins selected Skylar with the 247th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. During the draft process, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com described the quarterback as a priority free agent. Zierein had the following comments about Thompson:
Thompson’s passing production hasn’t been overly impressive and his health has been an issue over the last two seasons. He has a decent arm and can make plays on the move. He’s a decent field reader who doesn’t take too many unnecessary chances but he’s also not going to make enough plays. His age and lack of consistent production as a passer hurt his chances.
Tua Tagovailoa took a step forward today in the concussion protocol process. He threw some passes as well as did some exercises. Yet, McDaniel said Tagovailoa will not play this week. The coach stated that Bridgewater will be able to take part in non-contact football activities tomorrow (10/13/2022). McDaniel said that Bridgewater will most likely back up Skylar Thompson in this week’s game.
Xavien Howard and Terron Armstead seem closer to being ready to play against the Vikings. Byron Jones will be out again. Tyreek Hill also seems poised to play in week 6.
