Fins Notes July 23, 2023
The Miami Dolphins veterans report to training camp on Tuesday (07/24/2023). The rookies have been in for the past week. Chatter among Fins fans will be picking up soon.
Notes on the Dolphins
Well, now we all know why the market for Dalvin Cook has been slow to develop. No need to expound on the widely reported story but he is alleged to have caused mental and physical abuse to a woman back in 2021. It is also being reported that Cook allegedly offered the woman $1 million to clear him of any wrongdoing.
Cook and his agent have denied these accusations. According to the agent, Cook has filed a defamation of character suit against his accuser. Teams may want to see how this all plays out before offering him a contract. But, Cook says it is he who is taking his time picking a team to play for in 2023. Time will tell.
Wilkins Contract
Christian Wilkins wants to be extended with a long-term contract. But, he has no plans to hold out if a deal is not reached. He recently stated to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:
“I’m always motivated, and motivation comes from within, not a dollar amount, but it’s just my drive to be the best and be my best,” he said. “No dollar changes that, changes my mindset. Whether something gets done or not, my approach is always the same.”
Hopefully, both sides can reach an agreement that makes them happy. Wilkins is an unquestioned leader on and off the field. His motor never quits and logs more snaps than most defensive linemen in the NFL.
No Excuses in 2023
The Miami Dolphins head into training with one of the strongest rosters in the NFL, there is no excuse not to make the playoffs. There is also no excuse for not winning their first playoff game since December 30, 2000.
