Fins Up Notes

Fins Up to all of you! There are not many Miami Dolphins notes to talk about today. Even the news yesterday that Vic Fangio had been officially hired was sort of anti-climactic. We’ve heard that weeks ago that he was coming to Miami to be the defensive coordinator but yes there were fears of it not happening.

Now, that the ink is on the contract Dolfans can rest assured that Vic Fangio will not take another offer. Now, we will just have to wait seven months to see if the long-time NFL coach lives up to his billing. Fangio comes in with 36 years of experience of NFL experience. So, he should get off to a running start in installing his defensive system for Miami.

Defenses under the play-calling of Fangio have done well recently. His defenses have ranked in the top 10 in scoring defenses 8 out of the last 11 years. In 2020 Fangio was with the Denver Broncos as head coach when Bradley Chubb made the Pro Bowl. Chubb had 7.5 sacks in 2020 with Fangio calling the defense.

Other Notes

Tua Tagovailoa made some media appearances in the week leading up to Super Bowl 57 in Arizona. While speaking with Kay Adams, Tua revealed that he was taking Judo lessons. He feels that Judo will help him fall better after being hit which should help him avoid more concussions.

The new NFL league year starts on March 15, 2023. The Dolphins will have to make moves before that date to get under the salary cap. Miami must decide which of its own pending free agents they want to bring back for 2023. They will need the cap space to secure free agents as well as their draftees.

The Dolphins still have a vacant secondary coaching position. We should see which route they take with that spot soon now that Fangio is officially onboard.
