Josh Boyer Fired

Josh Boyer Fired

The Miami Dolphins fired defensive coordinator (DC) Josh Boyer today (01/19/2023).

Josh Boyer is Out as DC of the Dolphins

Many fans were calling for Josh Boyer to be fired. Miami advised that they are moving on from the DC that was a holdover from the Brian Flores era. The news of the firing was first reported by Ian Rapport and Tom Pelissero.

The Dolphins also relieved Steve Ferentz (Ast. LB Coach), Steve Gregory (Safeties coach), and Ty McKenzie (OLB coach) of their duties. Josh Boyer did seem to get better play out of the defense toward the end of the season. The defense gave up 34 points against the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs. Yet, it was big plays by the Dolphins defense that kept Miami in the Wild Card game.

Possible DC Replacements

The two most talked about possible replacements for Boyer seem to be Vic Fangio and Lovie Smith. Aside from DC experience, both Fangio and Smith have head coaching experience. Mike Zimmer also fits that bill.

A quick list:

  1. Vic Fangio
  2. Lovie Smith
  3. Mike Zimmer
  4. Kris Kocurek
  5. Raheem Morris (Currently Rams DC)
  6. Ejiro Evero (Currently Broncos DC)
  7. Sam Madison (In house longshot candidate)

There are many other names for sure. Those are the ones that I have seen the most since it was announced that Josh Boyer had been fired. Check out our breaking news show from earlier today.
