Miami Dolphins DC Search
The Miami Dolphins’ search for a defensive coordinator (DC) is officially underway. Several reporters have stated who the Dolphins plan to interview or have interviewed.
The DC Search for the Miami Dolphins
According to several media reports the Miami Dolphins were interviewing two top DC candidates yesterday (01/25/2023). Those candidates were Sean Desai and Vic Fangio. Those same reporters also stated that Miami was going to interview Kris Richard today. None of these reports were officially announced by the team. All three of these possible hires were mentioned on our site over the past few days.
Fangio is the runaway favorite among the fans. His track record makes it easy to see why fans would love to see Fangio as the next DC of the Miami Dolphins. Of all the candidates, Fangio has by far the most experience. His first job as a defensive coordinator dates back to 1995 with the Carolina Panthers. Fangio also has been a head coach with the Denver Broncos. Yes, he did not have a winning record as HC but Denver’s defense did well during his tenure.
Desai is said to be a protege of Fangio so you would expect to see the same defensive style. When Fangio left the DC position for the Denver job, it was Desai that stepped in to fill his spot with the Bears. Desai only spent one year in that spot since HC Matt Nagy was fired by the Bears following the 2021 season. Desai was not retained by the new regime.
Richard is also a possible candidate for the Miami Dolphins’ vacant DC position. When Miami hired Flores to be the head coach in 2019, Richard interviewed for that position. So the Grier must have seen something he liked during that phase of looking for an HC. Richard does have prior DC experience so that is a plus for the Miami Dolphins if they choose to go with him.
