Miami Dolphins Signs David Long and Mike White
The Miami Dolphins made some moves today (03/13/2023) as they signed QB Mike White and LB David Long. Miami also re-signed LB Duke Riley. Today was the first day that teams could negotiate with agents that represent free agents from other organizations. Of course, as you know the Dolphins had already made a big trade for CB Jalen Ramsey.
Miami Dolphins Making Moves
Mike White
White was not a name that many had linked to Miami as a backup QB but he was the first move of the day by the Dolphins. It appears the other backup QB options were seeking contracts that were outside of money perimeters money was seeking for that slot. So, they decided to go with White who is another local kid. The past two backup QBs (Jacoby Brissett & Teddy Bridgewater) signed during free agency over the past two offseasons had also played their high school ball in South Florida.
White does not have the resume of some of the backup QBS on the market but Miami had a number in mind for the backup QB and they did not stray from it.
David Long
The Miami Dolphins had a need for an inside linebacker entering free agency. They were hoping to find one that is strong in coverage since a Vic Fangio defense needs that skill from that position. David Long fits that skill set. He also comes at a lower price than what the others were getting at the start of business today. TJ Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds both signed big deals with the Chicago Bears.
Long is an improving player over the past couple of seasons. He will be a day-one starter for Miami. A solid signing with the potential to break out to even better levels.

Duke Riley
The Dolphins also kept one of their own by re-signing Duke Riley. Riley has been solid for Miami so not too surprising to see him back. I have not seen his contract numbers as of this writing. It is for two years.
