Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel in his Wednesday press conference said that Tua Tagovailoa had indeed suffered a concussion against the Green Bay Packers. Is Tua Tagovailoa’s future in doubt?

Future of Tua Tagovailoa in Doubt?

Tua’s career could be in jeopardy as a result of medical concerns. Tua has suffered at least 2 concussions with the possibility of 3 this season. The young man is going to have to sit down to think about his future outside of just the football aspect. Are there going to be long-term consequences to his health if he sustains additional concussions?

The team has to decide if Tua Tagovailoa is the future of the franchise or if is it time to move on from the third-year QB. Tua has shown at times that he is capable of playing at a high level in the NFL. Yet, one of the biggest knocks on him coming out of college was his durability. This is still a concern as Tagovailoa has missed games every season as a result of some type of injury.

Even while healthy this season, some talking heads questioned Tua’s future as a result of inconsistent play. As mentioned, Tagovailoa has looked the part of a franchise QB at times this season. But, there have been times that he has struggled to perform at a level that is needed to win week to week in the NFL.

If the future of the Miami Dolphins does not involve Tua Tagovailoa, what are the options? Of course for the rest of the 2022 season, the options will have to come from within the organization. Teddy Bridgewater is next up. Bridgewater was signed in the season as the experienced backup QB for times like this moment. Miami’s hopes of the playoffs in the near future now rest on the ability of Bridgewater and not Tua Tagovailoa.

Moving Forward

It is way too early to speculate on the long-term future of Tua Tagovailoa without knowing of the team’s plans. Does the organization still view Tua as the answer? Or have they seen enough? Will they use this latest injury as justification to move on from the 5th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft?

Does Tagovailoa have more surprises up his sleeves to prove doubters wrong? Does he decide it is in his best interest to retire? A lot of questions will be answered when the final whistle blows on the 2022 season of the Miami Dolphins. For now, Miami needs to get some wins to advance to the playoffs.
