Julius Brents 2023 NFL Draft
This scouting report on CB Julius Brents out of Kanas State is from Justin Caballero of Digging in the Trenches. The 2023 NFL Draft is quickly approaching.
2023 NFL Draft: Julius Brents CB, KSU
Grading scale: 1 Poor 10 Elite
Caballero describes Julius Brents as a tall lanky cornerback with range. His speed is decent for his size, especially straight-line speed. His lateral movements are not as quick but he appears to have quick light feet on film. He is faster in quick bursts than he is in longer runs. Seems to have decent flexibility and smooth hips, especially for a taller CB.
At times Brents plays too high which is a result of his height. Does a better job of avoiding playing too high when he is playing press coverage. He has decent play recognition that will need improvement on the next level. Gets lost at times on his switch releases but this can be improved upon by doing more film study.
Brents tackling is an improving part of his game. When he gets low, he is a solid tackler so with proper coaching in the NFL, he should continue to improve in this area. His play line at the line of scrimmage is okay but could be more physical. However, he does use his long arms to his advantage.
Brents needs to work on his ball-hawking skills. Needs to get his head turned around more quickly once the ball is in the air. Excels in “50/50” situations as he uses his height to his advantage. He had four interceptions in 2022 after only having 2 in his first 3 seasons of college ball. An area where this CB is showing improvement.

The Prospect Sheet
Julius Brents had scholarship offers from Boston College, NC State, Michigan State, and others aside from Iowa. Brents accepted Iowa’s offer but chose to transfer after two seasons. He played his final two seasons at Kanas State. He played his high school ball in Indianapolis, Indiana (Warren Central HS).
Draft projection: Most boards I’ve seen have Brents going between the 2nd or 3rd rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. I’ve seen some talk of him even sneaking into the 1st round.
Overall, Caballero describes Julius Brents as a solid contributor at the next level. Brents has high floors that also has that “dog” factor.
