2023 NFL Draft: Owen Pappoe, LB, Auburn
Caballero likes the fact that Owen Pappoe is a versatile linebacker (LB). This 2023 NFL Draft LB prospect can play inside or outside. Brings the element of speed when he suits up to take the field. Quick and light feet with fluid hip movement that enables him to excel in a sudden change of direction. His lateral speed is almost as fast as his strait line burst.
Pappoe is a good tackler that squares up to deliver the boom as a quick twitchy hitter. Also, lowers the pad level well when he tackles the ball carrier. Caballero said, “Owen is really good at reading and diagnosing plays.” A little better at detecting running plays but also solid at reading pass plays. Above average at stacking and shredding to slip-off blockers. Decent arm length helps him deliver good pop at the point of attack as he shreds blocks.
Pappoe is good in coverage which is needed in the NFL. “Owen can play zone or go to man to man with backs and tight ends,” said Caballero. He brings an impressive overall skill set to the linebacker position. Also, has the dog factor in him to the point it is as if plays as if he is a junkyard dog. Plays well in phone booth-size spots with a street fighter mentality. Good range in open spaces as well. Good range sideline to sideline but is just average in the middle or deep stitches. Can be an above-average speed rusher in blitzing. Might have to polish up some pass-rush moves.
