The Miami Dolphins Defeat the Patriots

The Miami Dolphins beat the Patriots by the score of 24-7 in the season opener at Hard Rock Stadium. The first score of the game was a field goal by Jason Sanders of Miami. The Dolphins had to settle for the field goal after Tua Tagovailoa was sacked. Tua fumbled on the play, but it was recovered by Miami. The opening drive was set up by a Jevon Holland interception in which  Xavien Howard had tipped away in the end zone.

The Dolphins’ first touchdown came via the defense. Brandon Jones nailed Mac Jones for a sack. Jones fumbled on the play. Then, Melvin Ingram scooped up the ball as he stepped into the end zone. So, Miami went up 10 to 0.

Miami’s first offensive touchdown came on a 4th down pass in which Jaylen Waddle raced to a 42-yard touchdown. So, the Dolphins led 17 to 0 at the half.

The Dolphins beat the heat as well as the Patriots in the hot weather. The Patriots would score their only points of the game at the 3:44 mark of the third quarter. Jones hit Ty Montgomery for a short TD pass. But, Miami would stop the Patriots from making it close a game.

Tua played well overall. But, the performance will not likely quiet his critics. Because he missed some throws to Hill that could have led to some big plays. He finished with 270 yards passing as well his touchdown pass to Waddle.

Areas of Concern as The Miami Dolphins Beat New England

There was a lack of a running game. So, Miami had to continue to rely on the passing game. Which allowed the Patriots to get constant pressure on Tua. The offensive line still has lots of work to do. But, the Dolphins beat a division rival to start the season. So, there is a lot to be happy for at the end of the first game.
