Caballero likes how Chase Brown got better each year as far as stats. But, he also has improved his receiving skills as a running back while at Illinois. Good speed to go along with good agility.
Brown has good straight-line speed as he ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. Uses that burst of speed on game day to his advantage. But, it is his agility that makes it so difficult for defenders trying to tackle him. Able to stop and go on a dime with a quick change of direction to keep the chains moving forward. “Chase has good wiggle to his running style,” said Caballero. Able to make defenders miss him as he heads upfield.
As mentioned, Brown has improved upon his receiving skills. Runs clean quick-cut routes not rounded off, his route tree is growing but will still need some development at the next level. “Chase Brown is a hands catcher and not a body catcher so he has fewer drops,” said Caballero.
Brown is a tough football player that does well in several facets of the running back position. A capable blocker in pass protection as he is able to chip block oncoming pass rushers. Also has good field vision when he has the ball in his hands which helps him find a hole in the line and then bursts upfield. Keeps a good low center of gravity as he heads into traffic. “Chase might not be a real powerful back, but he uses that low center of gravity to break tackles,” said Caballero.
Might bring some kickoff return skills to a team but has not been used in that capacity over the past 2 years. Brown had a breakout season in 2021 and improved upon that in 2022. So, he was too vital at RB to use him for returns.

The Prospect Sheet
Chase Brown attended St Stephen’s Episcopal School in Bradenton, Florida. He had offers from Syracuse, Indiana, and Western Michigan coming out of school. Brown chose Western Michigan but he stayed there for only one year before transferring to Illinois. It should be noted that Chase had his brother Sydney Brown as a teammate at Illinois. Sydney is also a draft prospect in 2023 at the safety position.
Brown participated in the NFL Scouting Combine.
Draft projection: 3rd to 5th round
Overall, Caballero feels that Chase Brown can become a quality starting running back in the NFL. Brings a good set of skills.
